As the club gears up for the eagerly anticipated Two Provinces Triathlon next weekend, we are also planning our annual Sponsored Swim which is fast approaching and will take place on Bank Holiday Monday 1st August at 2pm. Last year, we raised over €6,000 which was shared between our two chosen charities, St. Christopher’s Services, Longford and Roscommon Disability Support Group.
This year, we are raising funds on behalf of Hand in Hand, the Children’s Cancer Charity which provides practical support for families in Ireland whose lives have been affected by childhood cancer. Hand in Hand has actively supported families within our own locality in recent times and is a worthy beneficiary of this year’s swim proceeds. Further detail on Hand in Hand can be found at http://www.handinhand.ie
The swim course runs from Kilnacarrow bridge to the bridge in Lanesboro. We will again have plenty of safety boat and kayak cover in place and we will ferry swimmers to the start point from Lanesboro. It’s downstream from there!! We strongly recommend that anyone planning to undertake the swim should have completed a minimum of 1,500 metres non-stop swimming before accepting this challenge. Wetsuit use will be compulsory for all swimmers for safety reasons.
As in previous years, this will be a non-competitive swim. There will be no prize for first place as we want our chosen charity to be the winner on the day.
